Luc E. Weber
Honorary Professor and Rector emeritus, University of Geneva - currently devoted to higher education policy and university governance
Educated in the fields of economics and political science, Luc Weber has been Professor of Public Economics at the University of Geneva since 1975. As an economist, he served as an advisor to the Swiss Federal Government and has been a member of the "Swiss Council of Economic Advisers" for three years. Since 1982, Prof. Weber has been deeply involved in university management and higher education policy, first as vice-rector, then as rector of the University of Geneva, as well as Chairman and, subsequently, Consul for international affairs of the Swiss Rectors’ Conference. He is the co-founder of the Glion Colloquium and a founding Board Member of the European University Association (EUA). He was also for eight years vice-president of the International Association of Universities (IAU) for eight years and he served the Bureau of the Steering Committee for Higher Education and Research of the Council of Europe, notably as chair for two years. Prof. Weber was recently awarded an honorary doctorate degree by the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve for his contribution to Higher Education.

Bénéficiant d’une formation en économie et science politiques, Luc WEBER a été professeur ordinaire d’économie publique à l’Université de Genève depuis 1975. En tant qu’économiste, il a conseillé le gouvernement fédéral et les des gouvernements cantonaux ; de plus, il a été membre du groupe d’experts « situation économique » pendant trois ans. Depuis 1982, Luc Weber s’est engagé dans la gestion universitaire et la politique de l’enseignement supérieur et de la recherche, tout d’abord comme vice-recteur, puis recteur de l’Université de Genève, ainsi que comme président, puis délégué pour les questions internationales de la Conférence des recteurs des universités suisse. Il est, avec Werner Hirsch, le co-fondateur des « Glion colloquium » et vice-président de l’Association internationale des universités. Il est aussi un membre fondateur du Bureau de la « European University Association » (EUA). Luc Weber a aussi servi pendant huit ans le Bureau du Comité directeur de l’enseignement supérieur et de la recherche du Conseil de l’Europe, les deux dernières années en qualité de président du Comité. Luc Weber a récemment été honoré d’un grade de docteur honoris causa par l’Université Catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve, pour son engagement en faveur de l’enseignement supérieur.
